Japan GDP figures show sharp slowing of economic growth

Economic growth in Japan weakened significantly in the last financial quarter, official figures show. Air Max 360 Between April and June this year gross domestic product - the sum of the nation's goods and services - grew 0.1%, much lower than expected. Analysts said the country's export-led recovery appeared to be faltering as the value of the yen appreciates. Japan's close rivals, Germany and the US, recently posted far superior GDP figures for the same period. Germany registered a 2.2% rise, while the US had growth of 2.4%. Nike Air Insurgent The BBC's Roland Buerk in Tokyo says Japan remains one of the wealthiest and most prosperous countries in the world, but the trajectory of its economy has been clear for years. World Bank figures show that in the first eight years of this century Japan's economy expanded by just 5% while China's grew by 261%. Japan has relied on exports for growth, but the problem is that the yen has been rising, making Japan less competitive abroad, our correspondent says. Air Max 2010 The yen hit a 15-year high against the US dollar last week - adding to worries about the impact on exporters. 'Risk of collapse' After the GDP figures were released, Economics Minister Satoshi Arai said that the government needed to work with the Bank of Japan to respond to the rising yen. Analysts say Japan may have to take action to lower the yen's value against other major currencies. Nike Air Rejuven8 "The yen's rise may begin to hurt export growth in the latter half of the current fiscal year," said Norinchukin Research Institute economist Takeshi Minami. "I think the Bank of Japan and the government need to take decisive action against currency moves." The GDP figures give further credibility to the widely held belief that China will soon overtake Japan as the world's second biggest economy. Nike Air Yeezy That will become clearer early in 2011, when GDP figures for the whole of 2010 become available for each country. Weakening exports are not the only problem confronting Japan. Prime Minister Naoto Kan recently said Japan was "at risk of collapse" under its huge debts. And the domestic market is slow, with the price of goods is falling. Nike Air Zoom Moire+ The country's central bank has already announced a scheme to offer 3tn yen in low-interest loans in an effort to spur economic growth. Sri Lanka refugee ship nears British Columbia

A Thai cargo ship thought to be carrying up to 500 Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka is approaching Canada's Pacific coast, officials said. Air Max 2010 Leather The MV Sun Sea is being tracked by a Canadian warship and will be escorted to a port, they added. Public Safety Minister Vic Toews has said there is reason to believe members of the defeated Tamil Tigers movement are on the ship. The Tamil Tigers have been outlawed in Canada as a terrorist group since 2006. Nike Air Max TL 2.5 The ship has entered Canada's "exclusive economic zone", an area that stretches 200 nautical miles (370km) from the coast, the government said. Canadian territorial waters extend roughly 12 nautical miles (22km) off the coast. The ship will probably be escorted to Victoria, British Columbia, arriving late on Thursday or early on Friday, authorities said. Initial reports said the cargo ship had about 200 Tamils on board. Air Max 2010 Mesh However, on Wednesday officials in British Columbia said they understood there could be up to 500. Preparing prisons Speaking in Toronto on Monday, Mr Toews said: "I can assure you that we are concerned about who is on that ship and why they might be coming." Officials anticipate the immigrants will be taken to two correctional facilities in Maple Ridge, a town east of Vancouver. Nike Air Pegasus 89 British Columbia's Ministry of Children and Family Development is likely to take care of any children aboard the ship. Corrections officers and sheriffs at the prisons have been told to be ready for up to 500 Tamil migrants or refugees in the coming days, most of them men, the Associated Press news agency reported. The US Coast Guard is also reported to be monitoring the ship. Air Max 2012 The Tamil Tigers were defeated by the Sri Lankan army last year after more than two decades of conflict. Vicente Fox backs Mexico drugs legalisation

Former Mexican president Vicente Fox has called for the legalisation of drugs, arguing that prohibition has failed to curb rising drug-related violence and corruption. Air Max Kids 180 Mr Fox said legalisation did not mean that drugs were good. But he said it was a strategy that could reduce the power of the cartels. The current Mexican president, Felipe Calderon last week called for a debate on legalisation, but he said he personally opposed the idea. Former Mexican president Vicente Fox has called for the legalisation of drugs, arguing that prohibition has failed to curb rising drug-related violence and corruption. Air Max Terra Ninety Mr Fox said legalisation did not mean that drugs were good. But he said it was a strategy that could reduce the power of the cartels. The current Mexican president, Felipe Calderon last week called for a debate on legalisation, but he said he personally opposed the idea. More than 28,000 people have died in drug-related violence since Mr Calderon took office and deployed the army to fight the cartels. Terrible cost Air Max LTD Vicente Fox was also a supporter of the US-led campaign against drugs when he was president from 2000 to 2006. He and Mr Calderon both belong to the conservative PAN party. But writing on his blog, Mr Fox said the cost of of the war had been "enormous" for Mexico. As well as the loss of life, the conflict had damaged Mexico's international image and economy, and had consumed vast resources that could have been used for other things, he argued. Air Max TL 2.5 "We should consider legalising the production, sale and distribution of drugs," he wrote. "Radical prohibition strategies have never worked." "Legalisation does not mean that drugs are good," Mr Fox added. "But we have to see it as a strategy to weaken and break the economic system that allows cartels to make huge profits, which in turn increases their power and capacity to corrupt." Air Max LTD 2 Mr Fox also criticised Mr Calderon's decision to deploy the Mexican army to fight the cartels, saying it had damaged their image and exposed them to human rights violations. "They are not prepared for police work," he argued. "They should return to the barracks." President Calderon called last week for a debate on the legalisation of the drug trade. But he has stressed that he himself was against the idea. Air Max T Zone While legalisation would reduce the financial power of organised crime, he said in an interview with Colombia's radio Caracol on Sunday, it would also make drugs much cheaper, leading "millions and millions" more people to take drugs. Mr Calderon insisted he would continue his military-led campaign against the cartels despite rising violence, saying that Colombia had provided a useful example. Air-Max-LTD2 "When Colombia decided to confront the criminals with determination, crime began to retreat and the state began to win," he said. Mr Fox's support for drugs legalisation puts him alongside other former Latin American presidents who have called for a new approach to the problem. Iran lawyer in Ashtiani stoning case now in Turkey

A lawyer who defended a woman sentenced to be stoned to death in Iran is now in Turkey, according to the UN refugee agency. Air Max LTD 2 Mohamed Mostafaei was detained in Turkey because of passport problems but has applied for asylum, the agency said. He disappeared late last month after being summoned for questioning in Tehran. Amnesty International accused the Iranian authorities of harassing him. A well-known critic of the Iranian judicial system, Mr Mostafaei has been defending Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the mother-of-two facing execution for adultery. Air Max Misc Though the stoning penalty was lifted, she may still be executed by hanging. Metin Corabatir, spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Turkey, said Mr Mostafaei was in custody there and had applied for asylum in Turkey. "The request will now be evaluated in co-operation with Turkish authorities," he said. 'Thorn in Iran's side' Air-Max-LTD2 Speaking to AFP news agency, Mr Corabatir said the UNHCR would look for third countries that would accept him. "That is unfortunately a lengthy process but there are expedited tracks for vulnerable, high-risk people," he added. In a statement after Mr Mostafaei was reported missing, Amnesty's Malcolm Smart described him as "a thorn in the side of the Iranian authorities". Air Max Plus II Meanwhile, the Brazilian president, who has offered asylum to Ashtiani, has said that while it was important to "respect" other countries' customs, he could not condone capital punishment. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that despite Brazil's "friendship" with Iran, he believed, as a Christian, that "only God can give life and only God can take it away". "I think stoning is such a barbaric death that I said that Brazil would receive this woman with open arms, and could not kill her," he added. iPhone 4 jailbreak app goes live

An iPhone utility that lets iPhone 4 owners run non-Apple approved applications, has been released. Air Max 95 Jailbreakme 2.0 works on all iPhones and iPod touches running iOS4, its developers say. However, there are reports that iPhone owners are losing FaceTime and multimedia messaging services, as well as problems for iPad users. The utility was launched a week after US regulators announced it was lawful to hack or jailbreak an iPhone. Air Max TL 2.5 Unlike previous Jailbreak applications, which required the user to be connected to an external computer before they could install it, this latest version can be accessed and installed using the iPhone's own web browser, Safari. In a posting on Twitter, one of the developers behind Jailbreakme - who uses the handle "comex" - described the new tool as "exciting" but warned that the server was struggling to cope with demand. "Please don't e-mail me if the site doesn't load, because I know that," he wrote. Air max 97 The concept of unlocking an iPhone and using unofficial applications ended up in a legal case in the United States, with the country's Copyright Office ruling that "the practice of removing restrictions on third-party applications fell under fair use guidelines". The case looked specifically at Apple's iPhone, which has had a number of jailbreaking and cracking applications developed for it. Apple had argued that the use of these utilities broke American copyright law. Air Max T Zone "The user is not engaging in any commercial exploitation of the firmware," the US Copyright Office decision read, "at least not when the jailbreaking is done for the user's own private use of the device." Officially approved iPhone applications, available from Apple's online store, make the firm 30% of all sales. Unofficial applications, downloaded and installed "below the radar" make Apple nothing in revenue. Warranty warning Air Max BW Last week, Apple released a statement warning users against using jailbreaking utilities. "Apple's goal has always been to ensure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience," the statement read. "As we've said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably." Air Max Kids 180 There are a number of non-approved applications on the market, many of which are accessible through Cydia - the jailbreak interface that works in a similar way to Apple's Apps Store. However, unlike official products, they are not limited by digital rights management (DRM) software. Apple has yet to make an official comment on the release of the new Jailbreak application. Israel deports activists challenging Gaza blockade

Israel has deported seven activists who tried to sail an aid ship to Gaza in defiance of Israel's blockade Women MBT Barabara. They were among 11 campaigners and eight crew who signed deportation papers on Saturday, after troops boarded their ship the Rachel Corrie. On Monday, Israeli forces killed nine activists in clashes as they tried to break the blockade. Post-mortems in Turkey said 30 bullets had been found in their bodies - one activist had four in the head Jordan 1 . The examinations were carried out in Turkey because eight of those killed were Turkish, and the ninth had joint US-Turkish nationality. The BBC's Jonathan Head, in Istanbul, says some of the details seem to contradict the Israeli assertion that their commandos used minimum lethal force during the violent confrontation with those on board the Turkish Mavi Marmara Mbt. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday the soldiers had been attacked by a group of people - separate from the peace activists - who had boarded the ship "in a way that allowed them to avoid a security check", intending "to initiate a violent confrontation with IDF soldiers". Israel has faced an international outcry over the incident, which has also soured relations with Turkey gucci mane. Israeli officials say UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has telephoned Mr Netanyahu to propose setting up an international commission to investigate what went wrong. It would include representatives from the US, Turkey and Israel, and could be headed by former New Zealand Prime Minister Geoffrey Palmer Mbt Shoes. The Israeli cabinet is said to be considering the project. Activists defiant Mr Netanyahu has described those on board the Irish-owned Rachel Corrie as "peace activists", but labelled the other vessel - the Mavi Marmara - a "ship of hate organised by violent Turkish terror extremists Jordan 2 . The Cyprus-based Free Gaza Movement, which organised the attempts to break Israel's blockade, vowed that further aid shipments would be sent. There were six Malaysian and five Irish campaigners aboard the MV Rachel Corrie, which was named after a US college student who was crushed to death by an Israeli army bulldozer in Gaza in 2003 MBT Beach. They included Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Maguire and the former head of UN humanitarian operations in Iraq Denis Halliday. Israeli interior ministry spokeswoman Sabine Haddad said most of the crew and campaigners would be flown out on Sunday; six Malaysians and a Cuban have left the country overland to Jordan Jordan 3 . Among those deported on Sunday was an injured Indonesian activist from the Mavi Marmara. Other Indonesian activists gathered around the ambulance carrying their wounded colleague Surya Fahrizal shouting "God is great". He smiled from his stretcher but did not say anything gucci 2010 . The 1,200-tonne cargo ship MV Rachel Corrie was boarded about 16 nautical miles (30km) off the Israeli coast. The ship was carrying hundreds of tonnes of aid, including wheelchairs, medical supplies and cement. Israel says it will check the shipment and transfer all of the aid it deems acceptable into the Gaza Strip MBT Changa. Foreign ministry spokesman Mark Regev told the BBC Israel had had an agreement with the Irish Republic for the vessel to go to the Israeli port of Ashdod to be checked - and from there the aid and the activists on board could have proceeded to Gaza. Climate funds lack clarity

The international development charity Oxfam has a new report out asking some fundamental questions about climate finance jordan shoes. If you recall, two different financial pledges emerged at the Copenhagen summit: "fast-start" money to the tune of $30bn over the three-year period 2010-2012, and the much larger amount of about $100bn per year by 2020. Both sums are supposed to be raised in and by industrialised nations, and made available to their poorer counterparts - to help curtail their greenhouse gas emissions, and to help them adapt to impacts of climate change Sale MBT Chapa. Estimates of the true costs of these changes in the developing world vary significantly, and it's worth recalling that neither figure emerged from genuine negotiations - both were floated well ahead of time by western leaders, and changed not a jot as Copenhagen proceeded - so whether the sums are enough is one of the issues that Oxfam doesn't want us to lose sight of jordan 2.5 . The other issues that it flags up are ones that in principle should be easier to answer, but which right now are about as murky as the Gulf of Mexico. Is the money new, or are western countries seeking to redirect existing aid budgets? Will any of it be offered as loans? How much will come from the public purse Sale Men MBT Chapa? Underlying these is the most fundamental of all: will it actually materialise? These questions are not easy to answer, largely because there is no single conduit for funds. Donor governments insist that bilateral transfers of money can count towards the total; and as these contributions can be wrapped up as components of bigger projects (for example, as additional funds to flood-proof a school being built with aid money), there is obviously a lot of potential for figures to jump magically from one column of the ledger to another nike jordan. At the April session of the UN climate convention (UNFCCC) in Bonn, EU representatives announced that by June they would have a report on the table summarising and clarifying contributions from EU member states. It's not happened, and the idea now is to bring it out by the end of the year. So we will be one-third of the way through the "fast-start" period before we discover whether the EU is actually making good on its part of the $30bn pledge, and whether any uncomfortable questions hang over the raising and disbursement of the funds Sale Women MBT Chapa. Given their domestic political difficulties, clarity from the other two major promisers of money - Japan and the US - is in even shorter supply. Oxfam flags up a couple of other specifics. Some governments, it relates, are keen that money transferred through the UN's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) should count towards the bigger long-term target of $100bn per year jordan 3.5 . CDM money is spent on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, certainly. But the reductions accrue to the western countries that are paying for the reductions - so allowing this as a contribution to meeting the Copenhagen pledges would be a clear case of double counting. Secondly, some governments are apparently arguing that some of the $100bn should be proffered as loans, not as a transfer of funds. jordan 6 ring jordan 10.5 jordan 2009 jordan 6 rings shoes jordan countdown packs shoes

West Bank road partially opened to Palestinian traffic

The Israeli military has partially opened a motorway that runs through the occupied West Bank to Palestinian drivers, to comply with a ruling by Israel's Supreme Court jordan shoes. For Israelis, Highway 443 is a major link between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The Israeli military banned Palestinian cars in 2002 after shooting attacks on the road killed six Israeli motorists. In 2009, Israel's Supreme Court ruled that the general closure of the road to Palestinians was illegal Discount Mbt Shoes. The road was built in the 1980s, according to the Israeli human rights group B'tselem, some of the land was expropriated privately-owned Palestinian land. About 14km of it run through the West Bank. An estimated 40,000 Israeli drivers use the route daily. 'False impression' As it opened the road, the Israeli military set up new road blocks and checkpoints along the route Discount Mbts. Palestinians will now able to use part of Highway 443 to reach some of the villages alongside it. Access to Ramallah - the West Bank's economic and administrative centre - will not be allowed, nor will the road provide access to Jerusalem for Palestinian drivers jordan melo 1.5. The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), which petitioned the Supreme Court to allow Palestinians onto Highway 443, said the army was "acting in utter disregard of the spirit of the ruling". "This creates the false impression of new regulations, genuine freedom of movement and adherence to the rule of law, though in fact no real change will occur," Acri said in a statement jordan 2.5 . Israel has built an extensive road network in the West Bank to serve the settlements. Palestinian traffic is prohibited or restricted on these roads by a system of roadblocks and checkpoints that human rights groups have criticised as informal and arbitrary. Israeli security officials say the restrictions are imposed for security reasons Mbt Shoes Best Prices. The restrictions on access to roads force Palestinians to use long and winding routes rather than direct roads, adding greatly to the duration of journeys.
